The LIS Department at UNCG offers the Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) degree. It is a 36 credit hour program and students may choose to specialize in a particular information organization. Yes, you can, however, many of our courses require attendance at synchronous webinar delivered classes.

Visions is a program offered to any student with a valid bachelor’s degree who may want to take courses for personal enrichment, professional development, or to sample the MLIS program. Up to 9 hours can be applied upon admission except for licensure only programs (only 3 may be used).
The Department of Library and Information Studies has a few Graduate Assistantships in the department available each fall that may be renewed through a second year. There are also several scholarships offered by the LIS Department. See Financial Support for more information.
Students are assigned an adviser who works with them to create a meaningful program of study to reach their goals. Every semester, students review their plan with their adviser and then registers for selected courses using an individual advising code. A three-year plan of courses is available here.
