MLIS with Instructional Technology [Hybrid]
The MLIS with Instructional Technology concentration is designed for students desiring to work in the NC public school system as instructional technology directors, facilitators, or coordinators. Students completing this concentration successfully are eligible to apply for NC 077 licensure as technology directors.
Students who do not have a teaching certificate must take additional educational coursework. The additional courses may include: field experience, educational psychology, educational foundations, and a course in the teaching of reading. These courses may be taken at either the undergraduate or graduate level. UNCG courses that are 500 level or above may count as electives in the MLIS program with the approval of the program coordinator. Students who have taken comparable courses in an undergraduate program will not have to repeat these courses for the education requirement. The program coordinator will evaluate student transcripts to determine which, if any, additional education requirements are needed.
Successful completion of this program culminates in a license and a degree.

Library Science Course Requirements for MLIS with Instructional Technology Students : Students seeking instructional technology licensure must fulfill requirements (36 hours) for the Master of Library and Information Studies degree. Required core courses (13 hours) for all Master’s students are as follows:

Additional required courses
Specialized Course Requirements for MLIS with Instructional Technology Students: Additional required courses (18 hours) for all MLIS students seeking 077 licensure and for licensure-only students who already have a MLIS or M.Ed are as follows:
- LIS 630: Computer-Related Technologies for Info Management (3)
- LIS 631: Emerging Technological Trends in Info Access (3)
- LIS 635: Media Production Services for Library Programs (3)

Elective Courses for Instructional Technology Students
The remaining 5-6 hours may be taken as elective courses. For students lacking a teaching license, up to 6 hours of approved electives at the 500 level or above may be used for education courses that can count dually toward the MSLS degree and toward the licensure requirement.
MLIS students wishing to apply for NC Public Library Certification must take either LIS 610 Collection Management or both LIS 617 and 618 Materials for Children/Adolescents.
Specialty Area Praxis Exam for Instructional Technology Students: There is no Praxis test required for 077 or 079 licensure.
Capstone Experience for Instructional Technology Students
All MLIS students must complete a professional Capstone portfolio or master’s project addressing the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) of the LIS Department. This is done in the last semester of coursework.
Additional LIS Licensure Program Requirements
All LIS licensure candidates are required to:

- Submit a Candidate Agreement form to the school library program coordinator.
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Archive all course assignments required as evidence for accreditation and post them to TaskStream by the last semester of the program. TaskStream is a fee-based subscription service.
- Score 3 or above on all teaching dispositions.
- Receive a satisfactory evaluation on the practicum.
- Submit to a criminal background check.
