On March 17, the UNCG LIS Department and University Libraries hosted Dr. Doug Boyd, a renowned innovator of oral history, archives, and digital technology. Dr. Boyd is the director of the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky Libraries. During his presentation, Dr. Boyd spoke of his revitalization of the Nunn Center and his work on the design of the open-source Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS) system. The OHMS system allows users to research online oral history interviews by using search terms to connect to precise moments in the interview itself. Dr. Boyd spoke of examples where research was greatly benefited by this new technology and how current OHMS projects are ushering in student involvement. His speech truly exemplified why technologies like OHMS are reinvigorating oral history and providing new means of access to the narratives that the LIS field passionately archives.  You can watch Dr. Boyd’s lecture here.
