Community Engagement

Outside of the classroom, our School of Education students have access to internships, field-based projects and many opportunities to work with members of the local community, whether they are practicing teachers, emerging scientists from high schools, freshman just entering higher education or elementary school writers. Below are a few of the many ways the Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education (TEHE) makes an effort to stay connected with our surrounding community.

Bridges engages diverse middle school youth and teachers in out-of-school learning that integrates science, engineering, and computing to address environmental problems.

Gate City Writes (GCW) provides support, education, and community to young writers and writing teachers through their Young Writers’ Camp, Community Voices, and Professional Development initiatives.

Project Engaging and Advancing Community-Centered Teacher Development (EnACTeD) offers online professional development, teacher education programs for preservice and inservice teachers, and family and community engagement.
