Greetings!  Welcome to UNC Greensboro’s Library & Information Studies Department.

An old saying goes, “Don’t worry about a job. Find your mission and the job will follow.” If you have a passion for information and information technology, you have come to the right place. Library & Information Science professionals do an amazing variety of work, but, essentially, we are committed to ensuring that all members of our communities are empowered to access information for life-long learning, professional, personal, and civic decision-making, and health and wellness. We are committed to equity of access, intellectual freedom, and full inclusion into digital society.

As the oldest Library & Information Studies program in North Carolina, our mission is to effectively prepare you for this work through a rigorous curriculum, highly engaged learning, and an intellectually rich and stimulating environment. We offer our courses in hybrid (combining face-to-face and distance learners) and fully online formats. Our distance program is distinguished by synchronous learning environments in which you will benefit from real-time interaction with your faculty and your peers. Our classes are small and taught by highly engaged scholars and exceptionally successful practitioners. At UNC Greensboro LIS, we know education is personal, and we work hard to help you craft a program that will empower you to follow your mission.
