Dr. Ayesha Boyce to Present Free Webinar on the Values-Engaged, Educative (VEE) Evaluation Approach

September 24 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Ayesha Boyce will be presenting a free webinar (9/24/2015, 3 – 4:30pm) introducing the Values-Engaged, Educative (VEE) evaluation approach. The webinar will be hosted by the RMC Research Corporation. They are funded by the National Science Foundation to support the needs of the evaluation community in the NSF Math and Science Partnership (MSP) program. The webinar is free and open to the public.

Anyone can join the webinar by registering at

http://teams.mspnet.org/index.cfm/webinars/webinar_info?id=448

The Values-Engaged, Educative (VEE) evaluation approach, developed with National Science Foundation (NSF)-EHR support, defines high quality STEM educational programming as that which effectively incorporates cutting-edge scientific content, strong pedagogy, and sensitivity to diversity and equity issues. Extensive field tests in STEM education program contexts, commitments aligned with the NSF, the desire to use appropriate methodologies, and attention to the social-relational dimensions of evaluation, make VEE a good fit for evaluations of Math and Science Partnership programs. In this webinar, we will introduce the VEE approach and point viewers to further resources and materials about this approach. Drawing from practical examples of evaluations of MSP projects and other NSF programs, we will discuss strategies for evaluating STEM program implementation, effectiveness, impact, and sustainability with this approach.

Carrie Davis Ponder ’58 Endowed Scholarship in Education

This fund was established by an SOI in 2012 by Mrs. Carrie Davis Ponder and Dr. Reginald W. Ponder as a Merit Scholarship in the Endowment of The UNCG Excellence Foundation. At this time, we thank the Ponders for changing the name and location of the endowment so that it may be awarded during their lifetime.

This gift completes the Ponders’ commitment to a total gift of $100,000 achieved through a combination of outright gifts and charitable gift annuities.

The Carrie Davis Ponder ’58 Endowed Scholarship in Education will be awarded to students in the School of Education who plan to become teachers. The scholarship will be based on academic merit as well as financial need, with a preference given to first year students.

THA Foundation Scholarship Fund in Elementary Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro

To help alleviate the national shortage of classroom teachers by providing financial assistance to adult early elementary education students who are committed to the teaching profession. The Tom Haggai and Associates Foundation moved to a new funding model this year, committing to an outright gift of $35,000 each year and challenging their education partners (including the School of Education) to match $20,000 in funding for adult student scholarships. As the School of Education as succeeded with this challenge, this now results in a total of $75,000 being awarded for adult student scholarships, with the amount contributed by THA equaling $55,000 for the fiscal year.

The Mildred Boyles White Corbett Scholarship Fund

The Mildred Boyles White Corbett Scholarship Fund was established by Kenneth Corbett in memory of his late wife for the purpose of providing scholarship support to an undergraduate student majoring in Elementary Education. Mr. Corbett previously funded this scholarship with annual gifts; his estate gift of $25,000 will now fully fund the endowment.
