Provides the Department of Library and Information Studies with funds to bring in at least one speaker of note to UNCG on an annual basis for the benefit of faculty, students, and alumni.

Supports co-curricular educational activities for UNCG students who are participants in the UNCG Teacher Education Fellows program.

Provides needed funds for professional development, student recruiting and retention, travel, supplies, alumni activities and more. Alumni and faculty are proud to celebrate their high national ranking (#4) and establish this endowment out of a compelling desire to meet the needs of their students and faculty.

Provide funds for professional development, including travel, conference fees, a lecture series, or to meet the greatest needs of the School of Education as determined by the Dean of the School of Education. This gift honors the deanship of Dr. Wixson in the School of Education from 2011-2015 and the many accomplishments of the faculty and staff during her tenure.

Helps future teachers at UNCG get the best possible education in order to prepare them fully for the classroom. This fund was established by Dr. Lois Edinger, Professor Emeritus, who describes her philosophy of teaching with the simple statement: “I love to teach,” which led her to a lifelong career in education.

Dr. Rebecca L. Carver was a faculty member of the School of Education whose work focused on her vision and passion for experiential education and youth leadership development. Following her death at an early age, after only two years on the UNCG faculty, Rebecca’s parents, Patricia and David Carver (now both deceased) and brother, Dr. Randy Carver, established this endowment in her name to ensure that her work would live on.

Provides needed funds for professional development, student recruiting and retention, travel, supplies, alumni activities and more. We believe this may be the first endowment of its kind established by the alumni of a measurement, methodology, assessment and evaluation program in the country.

Provides financial and professional support to nontraditional students in UNCG’s School of Education, such as undergraduate students over the age of 24, graduate students seeking initial teacher licensure as they earn a master’s degree in teaching, lateral entry teachers and veterans. The Haggai Academy also includes a leadership component for these students, who are known as Haggai Scholars, focusing on ethics, service learning and professional development. The Haggai Academy will open in the Fall of 2018.

Supports and enhances the preparation of students for careers in teaching (K-12) through programs offered by the School of Education. Funds may also be used to help recruit minority students to these programs. Moreover, it is the donors’ wish to support teachers in the field so they may better cope with the many challenges and problems facing educators today. Toward this goal, funds generated by the Yopp endowment may also be used to develop, staff, promote, and hold either new or repeat professional development programs of benefit to teachers in the field.

Supports funding for students and faculty in the School of Education for travel, registration, and professional development experiences, including regional and national conferences, as well as international study.

Supports activities and programs of the Department of Counseling and Educational Development; established in honor of former professor, Larry Osborne.

Supports faculty and students of the Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations department through the funding of guest lecturers and support to doctoral students.

Provides needed funds for LIS students, in the form of student technology, student conference expenses, student retention, and more. Faculty and alumni from the Department of Library and Information Studies recognize pursuing a graduate degree can be both a challenge and a sacrifice. It requires dedication and a commitment to connecting people, libraries, and information through research, teaching, and service, to enrich living and working in a global environment. It is in this spirit, as well as the desire to “give back” and provide for the needs of current students that this endowment was established.

Enhances the work of the Educational Research Methodology Department by providing funds for travel and recruitment. Purposes for which funds might be used include but are not limited to recruitment of minority students and/or to support student travel costs.

Provides perpetual, annual support for the Teacher Education Resources Center operated by the School of Education in an effort to provide university students with the materials and technology they will need to become highly skilled educators.

Provides perpetual annual support for the Nicholas A. Vacc Counseling & Consulting Clinic, including capital projects, program support, and financial stipends for interns of the CED Department.

Supports signature curricular and co-curricular programming, including special seminars of the UNCG Teacher Education Fellows program. It provides program sustainability for this robust teacher-leader development program, including co-curricular educational activities (enrichment, seminars, travel, leadership) and additional faculty to support the developmental nature of the curriculum across four cohorts, as well as supervise the junior trip to the Ron Clark Academy.

The School of Education is grateful for Sarah and Bob Jordan’s leadership with the UNCG Teacher Education Fellows program. The Jordan name is synonymous with this incredible experience, dating to the original founding of the statewide NC Teaching Fellows program. Their support has allowed us to continue to operate the Fellows program as a hallmark of the UNCG School of Education.

Supports the development of a transformational model for teacher preparation by supporting the development of a collaborative “makerspace” area within the Teaching Resource Center. Through this model, teaching candidates, alongside university and school-based faculty, integrate existing and emerging technologies into P-12 instruction to ensure that students have the knowledge and skills to become lifelong learners and constructive contributors to their communities.

Enables future teachers to broaden their education by experiencing life outside their own cultures through funding study abroad programs.

Funds support enhancing students’ experiences, providing them with 21st century skills, and nurturing new initiatives for the School of Education. Gifts made to name classrooms, laboratories, lobbies, and other spaces in the School of Education building will be placed in this fund.

Provides needed funds for professional development, student recruiting and retention, travel, supplies, alumni activities and more. Alumni from the Teacher Education and Higher Education (TEHE) (formerly the Department of Curriculum and Instruction) Department’s programs remember how difficult it was to get funds to do things such as attend conferences, and yet it is such an important part of the learning experience, not to mention a wonderful way to raise the profile of the TEHE Department. It is in this spirit, as well as the desire to “give back” and provide for the needs of current faculty and students that this endowment was established.

Facilitates the continuation of the Hooked on Books program through collaboration with UNCG’s Teacher Education and Higher Education (TEHE) Department. The Hooked on Books program, which provides an opportunity for needy children from selected schools to purchase books for a personal library, has the goal of helping these children become life-long readers and life-long learners.

Provides funds to support the Upsilon Nu Chi Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota annual expenditures for professional development of students in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development.
