Our graduates are leaders in their roles as teachers, professors, interpreters, administrators, advocates, and researchers in early childhood services, special education, and deaf-related fields. Our high level of faculty engagement with students provides support through our programs.

If you are considering applying to a program in the Department of Specialized Education Services (SES), we are ready to guide you through the process and help you make an informed decision about your undergraduate and graduate education. Our department comprises three disciplines, Birth Through Kindergarten, Professions in Deafness (PID), and Special Education.

  • Birth Through Kindergarten – Professionals in this field provide service to young children and their families across diverse early childhood settings.
  • Professions in Deafness (PID) – Professionals in this field can be outstanding teachers for deaf and hard of hearing students, serve as sign language interpreters, as well as advocates for the deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Special Education – Professionals in this field provide a service to students with identified disabilities of which may impact their educational performance

Financial Support

A variety of financial aid is available to students including scholarships based on academic merit and financial need. Please review the list below carefully to learn more about scholarship opportunities offered specific for programs in this department.

Applications are accepted annually. The application period for the 2018-2019 Departmental scholarships is now CLOSED. The deadline for applications for the 2018-19 academic year was Monday, May 7th, 2018.  The application period for the 2019-2020 academic year will open in early April 2019.

Along with the application, candidates will need to include an updated resume or curriculum vitae.  Candidates should submit an electronic version at the end of the application.  

All students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for any scholarship in which financial need is a requirement of the scholarship.
