Post-Master’s Certificate in Advanced School Counseling

This fully online program is designed for practicing school counselors with a 48-hour master’s degree and an “M” level license. Upon completion of the program, counselors will be eligible for the “S” level license in the state of North Carolina.

Designed For

Designed for practicing school counselors licensed in North Carolina, with a minimum 48 hour master’s degree, current M license, and two years or more of school counseling experience (preferred).

Career Opportunities

This program provides school counselors with advanced training and continuing education that builds on their work experiences and their prior graduate education. Students in this program also find that they benefit from connecting and sharing with other school counselors across the state.

Program of Study

Total hours: 12 hours

Core courses:

Group Counseling in Schools (CED 661)
Multicultural Counseling in Schools (CED 662)
Consultations with Parents and Teachers (Fall 2016)
Advanced Contemporary Topics in School Counseling (Spring 2017)

Minimum program requirements:

Completion of a sequence of 4 graduate courses over a 15-month period. Admission to this fully online program requires attendance at one initial on-campus orientation meeting.

Application Requirements:

A copy of the applicant’s active M level license from North Carolina.
A transcript indicating a master’s degree with at least 48 hours of coursework.
One letter of endorsement from your current principal or other school administrator.
A personal statement including professional goals.
Official copies of all undergraduate transcripts.

Application deadline is December 1st each year.
