Professional development is paramount in staying up-to-date with current trends and emerging research, and in learning proven, effective approaches and techniques.
The Department of Counseling and Educational Development (CED) fosters this career-long commitment to professional development by offering the following opportunities (for more information, contact L. DiAnne Borders, borders@uncg.edu).
OPTION 1
Approved Clinical Supervisor Training
Developed by CED, this 45-hour training provides content that is presented through interactive activities, informative videos, counseling case demonstrations, reflective journal prompts and relevant external online resources.
Broaching Multicultural and Identity Issues in Clinical Supervision
The training, which provides 10 CE hours for maintenance of the ACS credential, is asynchronous and is built on video instruction, readings, self-reflection journaling, and summative assessments to prepare you to competently address multicultural and identity issues with your supervisees.
Trauma-Informed Professional Practice Certificate Training Program (TIPP)
The course consists of 16 video-based modules created to help participants gain an understanding of trauma, trauma reactions, and the physiological effects of trauma. Additionally, participants will learn information about trauma-informed practices and build skills specific to their profession.
Professional Development Workshop Series
CED sponsors and co-sponsors professional development programs to provide high-quality training to counselors, counselors-in-training, supervisors, and other helping professionals. Opportunities are announced through various professional organizations and media outlets as they are scheduled.

The Approved Clinical Supervisor Training was developed by CED, this 45-hour training meets the educational requirements needed to apply for the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential offered by the Center for Credentialing & Education (a corporate affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors). Content is presented through interactive activities, informative videos, counseling case demonstrations, reflective journal prompts and relevant external online resources.
CED is excited to announce a new, NBCC approved training which provides 10 CE hours for maintenance of the ACS credential. The training is titled Broaching Multicultural and Identity Issues in Clinical Supervision and is provided by Dr. Connie Jones. The training is asynchronous and is built on video instruction, readings, self-reflection journaling, and summative assessments to prepare you to competently address multicultural and identity issues with your supervisees.
The Trauma-Informed Professional Practice Certificate Training Program (TIPP) for Mental Health Professionals is designed to assist helping professionals in their quest to understand the impact of trauma in the lives of those they support. With the overall purpose of developing and strengthening trauma-informed practices, participants will gain knowledge to help them increase psychological and emotional safety in their professional spaces. The course consists of 16 video-based modules created to help participants gain an understanding of trauma, trauma reactions, and the physiological effects of trauma. Additionally, participants will learn information about trauma-informed practices and build skills specific to their profession. Experts in the mental health field collaborated with CED’s NCA-STAR to share their knowledge and experience as trainers for this course. Participants will hear from researchers, educators, and practitioners who will help to deepen the understanding of trauma. With each hour of content, engagement in the course happens in a combination of ways including watching recordings, reading, taking content quizzes, and participating in discussion boards and reflective activities. After completion of the full TIPP certificate training, participants will receive a certificate for 14 contact hours of continuing education and a digital training badge.

UNC Greensboro – Department of Counseling and Educational Development has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 3014. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. UNC Greensboro – Department of Counseling and Educational Development is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
